2022 – 2023 Las Vegas New Year’s Eve Road Closures
Although spending New Years in Las Vegas is an electrifying event, mayhem can easily ensue if no preparation is made. Only specific locations on the strip will accept rideshares, and increased prices should be anticipated. There will be a number of road closures however the city does provide a limited amount of public transportation. Planning early is the greatest way to guarantee that your New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas is a night you’ll never forget. Here is our guide to navigating the traffic closures on New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas.
Road Closures
Over 300,000 people are anticipated to visit the Las Vegas Strip on New Year’s Eve. The city of Las Vegas closes down Las Vegas Boulevard and a number of streets along the strip in order to provide a secure and peaceful holiday. New Year’s Eve road closures will begin as early as 5:00 pm. On New Year’s Day, they begin reopening closures starting at 2:00 am, however it can take a couple of hours to fully reopen all roadways.
The strip is many miles long, making it difficult to walk between the hotels even if they appear to be close to one another. From 5:00 pm to 4:00 am, Russell to Sahara as well as Flamingo at Valley View and I-15 on Tropicana at Industrial are closed. Koval and Frank Sinatra are open roads running north and south, for open roads running east to west there is Desert Inn and Industrial.
Driving
Las Vegas New Year’s Eve is one big party. The Strip is expecting 400,000 visitors, so there is a ton of foot movement on the streets. To reduce traffic, the city closes many of the nearby roadways! From 5:00 pm on New Year’s Eve until 4:00 am on New Year’s Day, you can anticipate traffic and closures. Parking will be difficult to find anywhere near the strip. Driving is not advised, and on New Year’s Eve and Day, the Las Vegas Police will be on high alert drunk drivers. Locals can ride the Las Vegas Monorail for $1 one-way, and public transportation is available until three in the morning. Make a plan and avoid driving after drinking!
Rideshare
For New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas, specific pick-up and drop-off points will be available for Uber, Lyft, and any other ridesharing services. Both Koval Lane and Frank Sinatra Drive will be used by them to get to those locations. Be prepared for price increases, increased traffic, and lengthier pick-up and drop-off wait times.
The Monorail
For Las Vegas New Years, the Monorail will be the most convenient way to move across the strip. On New Year’s Eve, the Monorail will be the ONLY mode of public transportation operating along the strip. Without taking into consideration the distance from the street to the hotel, the distance along the Las Vegas Strip from Mandalay Bay to The Stratosphere is 4.2 miles. The hotels on the Strip are built with optical illusions in mind, making them appear smaller and farther away than they actually are. Buy your tickets here to protect your feet! From 7:00 am on December 31 until 3:00 am on January 1st, the Monorail will be open. For locals, they are providing $1 one-way rides. The monorail has stops at MGM, Ballys, Flamingo, Harrah’s, and Sahara.
Bus Stops
On New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas, anticipate detours to start from 5:00 p.m. They will end on New Year’s Day at four in the morning. The easiest approach to the Strip will be through the bus routes. On Tropicana Avenue, Flamingo Road, and Spring Mountain Road/Desert Inn Road/Lamb Boulevard, there will be numbers 201, 202, and 203, respectively. Don’t forget that none of these will make a stop on the Strip. The Monorail will be the only mode of public transportation operating on the Strip. To learn more, dial 228-RIDE (7433)
